We want you to be able to perform at your best what you start your career with Selco. That's why we have a number of training initiatives to help you

Your Induction

​We are here to support you from day one, and that is why we ask all new colleagues to join one of our Regional Induction programmes carried out by our friendly team of Selco Trainers. These induction programmes may not be held in the place where you will work, but don't worry as we will cover all of the costs for your travel and food. Depending upon your role the inductions can last from 1 day, right through to 1 week - all aimed at giving you the best start in your new role!

During your induction you will meet other colleagues that are starting their new journey's with Selco so it will give you chance to meet some new friends right from day 1. The Trainer will also go through some key topics with you including Health & Safety, Customer Service and all of the useful information you need to know when starting to work for a new business like when we get paid, and how you access all of the great benefits available to you as a Selco colleague.

YOUR BENEFITS

Fork Lift Truck Training

We will always provide you with the skills that you need to carry out your role. Many of our Branch roles require the use of a Fork Lift Truck. If this is the case for your job we will train you on how to use this equipment. Using a specialist training provider we will train and provide you with an externally recognised certificate of competence for our Reach & Counterbalance Fork Lift trucks.

First Aid Training

For the safety of our colleagues and our customers we require all Branch keyholders to be trained in the basics of first aid. If you join us as a key holder we have a dedicated internal training team that will teach you the basics of first aid over a 5 day period resulting in your receiving an externally recognised first aid certificate.

The Selco Rising Stars Management Training Programme

We are committed to providing our colleagues with a genuine career path which provides the skills, techniques and self-development required to become a Selco Branch General Manager of the future.

The programmes are designed to be a step by step progression from the shop floor to Deputy Manager.

The courses are 12 - 18 months in duration and success will mean gaining a nationally recognised qualification. The Management Training programme is a great way to boost career and promotion prospects and equip our colleagues with the tools required to become our Managers of the future.

Bronze Star Programme

This programme is aimed at high performing shop floor colleagues who have proven their potential and are considered ready for promotion to Supervisor/Duty Manager

Accreditation:Nationally recognised Levy funded Level 2 Award

Duration: 12 months

Progression:An ideal stepping stone towards Supervisor/Deputy Manager roles

 

Silver Star Programme

This programme is aimed at high performing Supervisors and Duty Managers

Accreditation:Nationally recognised Level 3 Award

Duration: 12 months

Progression:An ideal stepping stone towards Supervisor/Deputy Manager roles

 

Gold Star Programme

This programme is aimed at Deputy Managers

Accreditation:Nationally recognised Level 4 Award

Duration: 12 – 18 months

Progression:A mandatory step towards those aspiring to be a Branch General Manager

The Selco Driver Academy

Not everyone wants to be the next Manager or Supervisor.Our Driver Academy is a great way of increasing your earning potential.A 12 month, levy funded course providing you with all that you need to become an HGV Driver, including Cat C and HIAB licences

Accreditation: Nationally recognised Level 2 Award, Cat C Drivers licence, HIAB certificate

Duration: 12 months

Progression: A fully qualified HGV Driver within 12 months of the start of the programme

Specialist Training

We employ over 3,000 colleagues who carry out a variety of different roles, so where needed we source specialist training and development courses to meet the needs of the individual. There would be too many to list here but in the past we have happily paid for and supported colleagues to train in areas such as Accountancy, Human Resources and Health & Safety in order to help them further their career with us.
